Facial Reconstruction
When
soldiers were to get hit or shot in the face, and survived, their faces were so
damaged it was almost impossible to fix. This is where they decided to try and
reconstruct the face to make it normal again. This was the beginning of the
plastic surgery era, and who else better to start this era then Gurdon Buck.
Gurdon was known as the father of modern plastic surgery,
he completed around 32 revolutionary “plastic operations” on
disfigured soldiers. Buck was the first to photograph the progress of his repairs and the
first to make gradual changes over several operations (shown in the picture
above).
Today, people abuse this surgery that was given to us to make them selves more "perfect". This surgery gives us good benefits too, don't get me wrong, but with 50 year olds with money want to look like they did twenty years ago, that's just stupid. Honestly, it is very impressive to see how we have come so far, starting with reconstruction of the face from injury's to almost anything you want to do with your body.
